Wildlife and Environmental Advocacy

Ground-truthing means you walk the road, hike the mountains, take the photos to create the films, to tell the stories. November through December 2022 our organization organized protests that involved border wall activist colleagues and nearby residents to speak out and stand up to Ducey’s illegal shipping container wall. The Border Wall Resistance coalition came together to protect the land, water, and wildlife. Camp Ocelot was created. The Resistance stopped the work and Ducey was forced along with lawsuits from the Department of Justice to remove the containers. A noted journalist dubbed us the “rag-tag” border wall resistors, well we were, and we succeeded. All the junk containers were removed by Jan 30, 2023. Be the change. Be the warrior for love, for equality, and for social and environmental justice!

Ducey’s Boondoggle by Tony Heath illustrates through artful collages of starkly contrasting elements, the hideous ironies of life in the Coronado National Forest along the southwestern border. Fusing images from a two hour visit to Camp Ocelot, base camp for the Border Wall Resistance movement, he documents a wall constructed of shipping containers with rage, wit and even humor.

A Wall Runs Through it by ASU School of Sustainability and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism students Makepeace Sitlhou, Trilce Estrada Olivera and Hakob Karapetyan share the shipping container travesty through the stories and documentation of border wall activists.

Prayer Run by ASU Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication students John Leos, Nellija Locmele, Tyler Bender and Megan Swing documents a 60-mile run by youth of the Brophy Native American Club and tribal members who unite in prayer for Oak Flat, San Carlos Apache sacred site threatened with destruction by the Resolution Copper mining project.
